Hackney Council has backed a legal fight against the Mayor of London’s fire cuts, which includes the closure of Kingsland Fire Station.

On Tuesday, the council announced that it has joined forces with Islington and three other local authorities to seek a judicial review of the plans, which could enforce the closure of nine fire stations across London.

According to Mayor of Hackney Jules Pipe, the plans “place the safety of ordinary people behind cost savings in importance and we will join with other local councils to challenge this decision in the courts.”

Following the protest, a spokesperson from the London Fire Brigade confirmed that it was “unlikely” the Kingsland Fire Station would close next month as planned. Fire-fighters at the fire station attend 1,500 incidents a year.
